Imposing six months, suspended for 18 months, Judge Simon Medland QC said: " You have a long addiction to cannabis which has got you into trouble with the police and the courts.

"You began taking the drug in very sad circumstances because you were, as a young man, yourself the victim of serious and traumatic offending.

"Cannabis, no matter what some people may think of it, is in my view a drug which can – and often does – cause significant problems to people’s health in general terms and specifically their mental health.

"It is for you to find it within yourself to get yourself off the drug."

Cropper must also do 150 hours of unpaid work and complete a rehabilitation requirement.
