A visitor who came to Blackpool to celebrate his birthday was over the alcohol limit when he drove to buy some cigarettes.

Daniel Roberts, 27, of Narrow Lane, Llandudno Junction, Gwynedd, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.

He was sent to crown court for sentence and banned from the road in the meantime by District Judge Jim Clarke sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said police stopped Roberts driving a Peugeot on Preston New Road on January 13 at 1.35am.

A breath test showed 65 micrograms of alcohol in his body - 35 is the limit.

Martin Hillson, defending, said Roberts felt fine to drive to get some cigarettes and did so.
