Bingo worker stole case from car

A bingo club worker had no idea how he came to be sitting on a suitcase stolen from a university student’s car, a court heard.

Gary Bailey said he remembered drinking in a casino, then finding himself in a back yard.

Bailey, 33, of Clifton Drive South, St Annes, pleaded guilty to stealing luggage.

He was fined £120 with £85 costs and ordered to pay £200 compensation plus £20 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.

Philip Hall, prosecuting, said on September 27 a student on her way back to university visited Blackpool and left her luggage in the boot of her car.

She returned to find the car had been broken into and a witness pointed her to where the culprits had gone.

The student went to a rear yard and saw Bailey and another man sitting on her suitcase.

Bailey apologised.
