A former council benefits advisor has denied illegally claiming almost £21,000 worth of benefits.

Anita Cockbain, 43, of Kingstone Close, Knott End, an ex-Wyre Borough Council Contacts Centre officer faces five charges.

She is accused of three offences of dishonestly failing to notify a change in circumstances and two offence of dishonestly making a false statement to obtain benefits.

Cockbain is alleged to have illegally claimed Disability Living Allowance by not revealing her physical capabilities had improved. She is also said to have illegally claimed council tax and housing benefits from her former employers Wyre Borough Council.

The offences are alleged to have taken place between April 2008 and June last year.

Cockbain’s case was adjourned for trial on July 22 by District Judge Roger Lowe sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.
