A Blackpool man has made his first appearance at Blackpool Magistrates court charged with incorrectly claiming £41,384.

Raymond Smith, 43, of Whitegate Drive, faces four offences of dishonestly failing to inform the Department of Work and Pensions of a change in his circumstances between 2009 and 2012.

Smith is to alleged have failed to inform the DWP that he was living in Thailand.

The benefits involved are Employment Support Allowance, Income Support,Housing Benefit and Disabled Living Allowance.

Blackpool Magistrates sent Smith for trial at Preston Crown Court on August 1. He was bailed.
