A bar worker was caught with cocaine on a night out to celebrate his girlfriend’s birthday.

Liam Melrose, 23, of Bond Street, South Shore, pleaded guilty to possessing the class A drug.

He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 costs plus £15 victims’ surcharge by District Judge Jeff Brailsford sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

Martine Connah, prosecuting, said police searched Melrose outside Hush nightclub and found a small amount of cocaine on September 7 at 4.40am.

Kathryn Jamieson-Sinclair, defending, said he had been given the drug.

She added: “The fact that he still had the drug in his possession at that time showed he was not going to take it. He wants to remain offence free.”
