Jim Mowbray, prosecuting, said police saw the defendant driving a Ford Focus erratically on Watson Road on July 10.

The court was told an officer tried to speak to Smith-Hollins he ran off but was caught after a short chase. His car had two bald tyres.

At the time, he was on a suspended prison sentence for dangerous driving.

David Charnley, defending, said his client ‘stupidly’ bought the car and decided to go for a drive in it.
