A man who was banned from the road tried to run away from police.

Lance Smith-Hollins, 26, of St Mary Close, Grange Park, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified.

He was bailed to appear for sentence at Preston Crown Court on August 24 by District Judge Edward Barr sitting at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court.

Jim Mowbray, prosecuting, said police saw the defendant driving a Ford Focus erratically on Watson Road on July 10.

The court was told an officer tried to speak to Smith-Hollins he ran off but was caught after a short chase. His car had two bald tyres.

At the time, he was on a suspended prison sentence for dangerous driving.

David Charnley, defending, said his client ‘stupidly’ bought the car and decided to go for a drive in it.
