Out of work Stephen Mountjoy went shop-lifting so that he could look smart for job interviews.

He stole £1,300 of suits, shirts ties and shoes from Marks and Spencer because he always looked good in their outfits.

Mountjoy, 56, from Lorne Crescent, Carlisle, admitted four charges of shoplifting at the Outlet’s store in Blackpool.

The resort’s magistrates heard that he was caught by security watching CCTV screens and his clothing haul was found later in a hotel room.

Patrick Nelligan, defending, said that his client was a former licensee in Carlisle but his business had collapsed and he had been made bankrupt losing him his wife and his home.

Sentencing was delayed so that probation reports could be prepared on Mountjoy.
