A teenager has made his first appearance at court accused of setting fire to a house after pouring petrol in through the letterbox.

David Conroy, 19, of London Road, Layton, is charged with arson at an address in the resort’s Caton Grove with intent to endanger a man’s life on October 23 this year.

The prosecution opposed an application for bail for Conroy by defence advocate Suzanne Mugford.

Blackpool magistrates considered their appeal but decided it was justified to release the defendant while he awaits the case being heard before a judge.

The bench sent the case direct to Preston Crown Court and bailed Conroy to appear there on December 22.

When he appears at the higher court he will be joined by co-accused Craig Burdekin, 32, of Dalkeith Avenue, Marton.

The hearing was adjourned.
