A MAN committed his 81st offence of shoplifting when he stole 10 packs of bacon.

Mark Billing, 39, of Dinmore Avenue, Grange Park, admitted theft and breaching a conditional discharge.

He was sentenced to six weeks imprisonment by Blackpool magistrates.

Martine Connah, prosecuting, said staff at the resort’s PG Stores saw Billing put 10 packs of bacon valued at £1 each in his jacket on February 13 at 2.40pm.

Trevor Colebourne, defending, told magistrates that his client had not gone into the shop intending to steal but he was tempted when he saw the bacon.

Mr Colebourne added it was his client’s 81st offence of shoplifting.

Billing had apologised to the shopkeeper and said he realised the effect shoplifting had on small stores.
