A Home Office post mortem will be carried out to try to establish the cause of death.

Lancashire Police said officers are continuing to provide support to the child’s wider family.

David Christie, 35, of Wyre Grove, Blackpool, has been charged with Section 18 wounding. He appeared at Blackpool Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, March 14 and was remanded.

The court was told Christie could face further charges in the event of his son's death.

Lancashire Police said a decision will be made in due course whether any further charges will follow.
