POLICE are appealing for a man to come forward after a teenage girl was seriously sexually assaulted in an alleyway.

The incident happened on a cut through to Blackpool’s Grange Park estate, next to the bowling green off Garstang Road, shortly after 9am yesterday.

Det Chief Insp Andrea Barrow, who is leading the investigation, said: “The victim has been traumatised by what has happened and she is being cared for by specially trained officers.

“We believe the incident may have been witnessed by a man who scared off the offender. I would appeal specifically for him to come forward and contact the police, as well as anyone else who may have any information.

“He would have been walking along the cut through towards Garstang Road just after 9am.”

A 21-year-old man was arrested and questioned yesterday.

Police made a number of patrols in the area to help reassure the local community and talk to residents.

Anyone with any information can call police on the new non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
