Appeal for witness to assault

POLICE are appealing for a man to come forward who witnessed an assault in a church yard in Poulton.

The victim 39-year-old victim suffered a fractured eye socket after being punched in St Chad’s Church yard on Friday, January 11.

The offence took place around 10.45pm when the victim was on his way to get some food after a night out in the town centre with his wife.

He was approached by a man who, without provocation, punched him in the face.

Directly after the incident a man, who witnessed part of it spoke with officers in the church yard.

Police are now appealing for the witness to get back in contact with them as they believe he may have crucial information that could help their investigation.

Det Con Carl Pritchard, from Fleetwood CID, said: “This was a nasty assault and I would appeal to anybody that witnessed it.

“In particular I would appeal to the man who briefly spoke with officers to call me directly on (01253) 604404 or Lancashire Police on 101.”

People with information can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Police are unable to give a description of the offender at this stage.
