Appeal after grieving widow’s handbag snatched

An elderly holidaymaker grieving over the recent death of her husband had her handbag snatched in Blackpool town centre.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the the incident, which took place at around 2pm on Sundayoutside Argos, on Albert Road.

One man has grabbed the handle of the 72-year-old’s handbag which she had in her left hand and when she refused to let go a second man has kicked her at waist height and demanded her bag.

The men fled towards the town centre with the small, black oblong handbag containing a green purse and £125 in cash.

Both men were wearing dark clothing and the victim was dressed in a pink jacket and black skirt.

The woman, from Croydon, South London, was on holiday after her husband’s death.

Det Const Debra Parker from Blackpool CID said: “From CCTV nearby we are aware there were a number of people who were walking along Albert Road around the time of the incident and would ask if anyone saw this robbery and can assist in identifying the offenders to call police 101.”
