POLICE are appealing for information after a thief stole money from a 70-year-old man on a mobility scooter in Blackpool.

A man started talking to the victim outside Farmfoods on Devonshire Road at around 11.50am on Friday.

The assailant asked him if he was going shopping before grabbing some money out of his hand and running off.

Fortunately, the man on the mobility scooter was not injured during the attack, but was left shaken and upset by what had happened.

The attacker was described as white, around 5ft 6in to 5ft 8in tall, with fair hair.

He was said to be of scruffy appearance and was wearing a white plastic coat, black beanie hat and black tracksuit bottoms at the time of the incident.

PC Darren Woodley, of Blackpool Police, said: “This is an appalling crime where the man has targeted a vulnerable member of the community, thankfully the elderly gentleman wasn’t physically hurt, but was left very distressed by what had happened.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time who may have seen this man to contact police.”
