Residents in the Ansdell area are being warned to take care following a spate of thefts from homes and vehicles.

Police say that opportunistic thieves have been targeting residents who have left windows and doors open during the recent spell of hot weather.

Sergeant Jennifer Bradshaw said in a statement: "The Ansdell area in particular has seen several thefts from motor vehicles and burglaries in the last week - the majority of which entry has been gained as a result of unsecured doors and windows.

"Let's make it difficult for them - close and lock your windows when you go out and also when you go to bed.

"Being a victim of a burglary is an absolutely dreadful experience - not to mention the loss of your personal possessions.

"We are working closely with the community to catch the culprits. If you have any information which may help with the enquiry, please get in touch."
