A cannabis addict was exploited to become a “runner” of heroin, a court heard.

Mark Baxter was persuaded to hand over a wrap of the Class A drug to an undercover policeman in a sting that was recorded as part of a police crackdown on drug dealing.

The 30-year-old of Albert Road, Blackpool had been committed by magistrates for sentencing at Preston Crown Court after admitting supplying a drug.

The court heard the offence took place in November last year and an undercover officer bought heroin from Baxter in the Exchange Street area.

Richard Archer, defending, said his client had “simply been used as a runner” by someone higher up the drug chain.

Judge Robert Altham gave him a three year community order and told him to pay a £60 surcharge.
