A MUM-of-four has been arrested on suspicion of wasting police time after an investigation into an alleged abduction was called off.

A massive police manhunt was launched following reports a two-year-old girl had been snatched from the back garden of her home on Erdington Road in central Blackpool.

Janine Gibson claimed a man carrying a knife had tried to snatch her child around 6.40pm on June 30.

But the 24-year-old has now been arrested on suspicion of wasting police time.

She has been bailed until September 15.

It was alleged a man had scaled a 6ft wall and grabbed the toddler, who was playing with her four-year-old brother and seven-year-old friend.

The area was flooded with officers, parents were warned to be extra vigilant and two men were arrested and quizzed over the allegations.

But last week, detectives announced they had established the attempted abduction had not happened.

A police spokesman said: “A 24-year-old woman from Blackpool has been arrested on suspicion of wasting police time.

“She is on police bail until September 15.
