Crews battle two blazes at same time

Fire crews on the Fylde coast were stretched when they were called to two incidents within 25 minutes.

The first blaze was reported at 6.34pm at the Rock Gardens in Devonshire Road, Bispham.

With Bispham’s crew already occupied with the ongoing operation at Jameson Road in Fleetwood, Blackpool’s Forest Gate crews were called to attend the scene.

On arrival at the site in Devonshire Road, close to the junction with Warbreck Hill Road and Shaftesbury Avenue, crews found 50 square metres of scrubland on fire.

Firefighters used brushes and an aqua pack to extinguish the fire, which is believed to have been started deliberately.

At around the same time Lancashire Fire and Rescue service received a seperate call to an address in Digham Avenue, Bispham.

With Blackpool and Bispham’s crews already engaged firefighters from Fleetwood and South Shore were forced to attend the incident, which was reported at 6.54pm.

When they arrived at the scene they found a fire in the kitchen of the property.

Crews used breathing apparatus, a hose reel and ventilation unit to extinguish the fire. There was severe fire damage to the boiler and severe heat damage to the cooker. T

here was also smoke damage to the kitchen and hallway.

Smoke alarms in the property sounded and alerted the neighbours to the fire.

There were no casualties.
