Have your say

Ever fancied being the one to flick the famous Illuminations Switch-On switch? Now is your chance...

All you have to do is be the brightest one at the Illuminations Sponsored Walk this autumn

The Friends of Blackpool Illuminations are holding their second sponsored walk on Friday and the theme for the night is Light yourself up to light up the Lights.

Everyone is being asked to come along trimmed up in illuminated fancy dress and whoever is declared the brightest entrant on the night will get the chance to perform the honours of turning on the world famous Blackpool Illuminations.

A spokesman for the group said: “The Friends campaign is really starting to gather momentum as word spreads about the ways in which everyone can get involved with the Lights.

“It’s sure to be a fun night out so why don’t you get a team of family, friends or workmates together and come and have a laugh on the promenade while raising money for a great cause and getting behind our Lights.

“Get some sparkly deely boppers and a string of LED lights, and come and have a few hours of fun in the Illuminations. Earn a tasty treat when you get to the end of the route, leave your cares behind and come and feel like a child again – which is what the Illuminations are all about.”

If you want to take part on the night, meet at the Comedy Carpet at 6.30pm for a 7pm start and see if you are the winner of the sparkliest person present. It’s hoped that a special celebrity guest will be supporting the lights to help with the Switch On.

Once the Lights are on everyone will walk from The Comedy Carpet to Teddy Bears Picnic at Red Bank Road at Bispham.

All monies raised will go towards the Illuminations fund and you can download a sponsorship form from www.theBlackpoolilluminations.info.
