TWO men have been arrested after a raid on a cannabis factory.
Police swooped on a property in Bispham on Wednesday night after a tip-off from a member of the public that drugs were on the premises.
On arrival they discovered a sophisticated cannabis growing operation had been set up inside.
Following the raid, officers said although the set-up they discovered at the property on Wakefield Road was “relatively small” and plants had not yet been grown, it had the potential to be used for large-scale production of the class B drug.
Officers raided the property at around 10.50pm and found a lighting and ventilation system similar to those found in the most sophisticated factories.
Since the operation was uncovered officers have been gathering evidence to use in court for any future case.
They also arrested two men from Fleetwood who were last night being quizzed over their involvement in the drugs factory.
A Lancashire Police spokesman told The Gazette the raid was a sign police take drug dealing on the streets of Blackpool seriously and will act on any information passed on to them.
She added: “Any seizure of cannabis prevents drugs from making their way on to the streets of Blackpool.
“We are committed to tackling drug dealing in the town and would ask residents to help us by contacting us if they have any information about criminal activity in their neighbourhood.”
Officers – who yesterday cleared the premises after taking photographs as evidence – will continue their inquiries today.
n A 39-year-old man and a 27-year-old man, both from Fleetwood, were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the production of the class B controlled drug cannabis.
