Excerpts from a stage show about the backstage life of famed comedian Les Dawson, which opened in Blackpool, will air on Channel 5 next weekend.

Cissie and Ada was first performed at the resort’s Grand Theatre and went on to tour the country.

Now part of the show will be screened as part of a television documentary focusing on some of the country’s top double acts, including Les and his comedy partner Roy Barraclough.

Producer Chris Mellor who devised the touring comedy show said: “Channel 5 asked us to share the best bits of our play for the national poll, to help get the comedy pair voted in the top ten of best double acts.”

Les Dawson’s daughter, Julie Ryder, who lives in Chorley, said: “The Cissie and Ada show was superb – it gave me two hours of my father back.”

Britain’s Best Loved Double Act, produced by Objective Productions, will air at 7.15pm on Saturday, April 12.
