MILLIONS of pounds from a government grant is helping to speed up redevelopment of Fylde coast college facilities.

Blackpool and The Fylde College (B&FC) has been given £2m from the Skills Funding Agency to improve its buildings.

The money will help make up a £6m total to fund over-cladding of the Bispham campus.

The project is part of a £52.5m commitment, over 10 years, to redevelop the Bispham, University Centre, Fleetwood Nautical and Ansdell campuses.

Pauline Waterhouse, principal and chief executive of the College, said: “This grant is great news.”

The work is expected to begin in January 2013, lasting for 12 months, on the Ashfield Road buildings.

Mrs Waterhouse added: “The improvements will see work to over-clad the existing structures with insulated aluminium panels, replacement windows and external doors and an insulated roof.

“In addition, neighbouring buildings will be linked by walkways on elevated floors to improve access between blocks.

“We expect the investment to significantly improve the learning and working environment.”
