A dog walker, who thought a person was about to enter the water, had raised the alert to HM Coastguard Fleetwood in the small hours of this morning.

A spokesman from Coastguard said: "On arriving on scene, three search parties searched the area from ‘The Venue’ Cleveleys to Rossall Beach with nothing found at that time.

"However, Lancashire Police found the casualty, who had not been in the water, safe and well but sheltering behind the promenade wall.

"As the casualty was reluctant to leave the area, the team stayed on scene until the Police persuaded the casualty to move into the back of a nice warm Ambulance and into the care of paramedics."

If you see, or suspect that someone is in trouble along the coast call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
