Co-op homes plan at next stage

More detailed proposals for a residential development on the site of a former social club have now been submitted to Blackpool Council.

Approval has already been granted to build 54 homes on land on Preston New Road, Marton, where the Co-operative Sports and Social Club stood before it was demolished earlier this year.

The applicant has now gone back to the council to seek agreement on reserved matters.

This includes reducing the number of proposed homes by one to 53, changing one property so it will be a bungalow and agreeing the construction materials which will be used.

The application also includes details of car parking and associated works, plus using the existing access to the site. In 2015 the council approved an outline planning application by the Co-operative Group to build up to 54 new homes on the site which also includes a football pitch at the rear.
The outline application is for a mix of two and three bedroomed terraced, semi-detached or detached dwellings.

The Co-op club closed down in 2013 when it’s management was unable to meet payments on debts of £42,000.

It had seen membership levels dwindle from around 2,000 in its heyday to just under 300 before it closed.
