The historic event returns to Lytham Hall for its fifth year of afternoon and evening entertainment.

Ahead of that, the traditional morning procession through the streets, starting from Station Road at 10.15am and featuring a host of local organisations’ colourful floats, will be followed from 1.30pm by the crowning of new rose queen Daisie Smith in the Hall grounds.

Daisie, 13, attends St Bede’s RC High School and is representing St Cuthbert’s CE Church.

She dances at Lytham Academy of Performing Arts, has won a number of dance festivals in tap and also takes classes in ballet, musical theatre, contemporary and Irish dance.

Daisie said: “I am honoured to have been chosen to be this years Lytham Rose Queen.”

For the afternoon entertainment, free buses will run from the Hall approach road entrance at Ballam Road, with the final one back at 10.15pm.

Among those providing the entertainment will the Poco Loco Salsa Band, Guardian Band, the Fylde Sports Acrobats display team and the Lytham St Annes Lifeboat Shanty Crew, while a barn dance featuring the Toll Bar Band from 6pm will be followed at 8pm by the Casablanca Steel Band.

Organisers’ spokesman Andrea Swindlehurst said: “We are all looking forward to another wonderful weekend.

“As in previous years, everyone is welcome to bring along their own picnics or sample the numerous food options at the Hall.

“There will be traditional games and other local business stalls available for families and friends to make a real day of it in the lovely grounds.”

A Songs of Praise-style concert will follow in the marquee at the Hall from 3pm on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the traditional Club Day funfair will be on from 6pm to 10pm tonight, tomorrow and Monday, all day until 9pm on Saturday and from 1pm to 6pm on Sunday at its temporary home on The Green.

Work on the sea defences between Lytham and Fairhaven have made its usual base on The Triangle facing Seafield Road unavailable this year.

The entrance to the new site will be just east of the Windmill and funfair boss Stanley Cubbins said: “We are all set for the new location and looking forward to it, with all the favourite rides available.”

The Club Day committee is in urgent need of more marshals for the Saturday morning procession, which will see traffic diversions in force from 9.30am.

Anyone interested should call in to the Hewitt Lecture Rooms at the junction of Clifton Street and Bannister Street on Friday evening at 6pm.
