It’s no wonder Fylde coast make-up artist Nicola Jane Miller is all smiles.

The 42-year-old has just scooped a top honour in the Official Make-Up Awards 2018.

Nicola Jane was crowned North England Freelance Make-Up Artist of the Year, at the glamorous black-tie event, which took place at the Mercure Manchester Piccadilly Hotel.

She has worked as a make-up artist for the last five years, after training at the Glauca Rossi School of make-up in London – which counts Charlotte Tilbury, Gemma Kid and Florrie White as past students.

She said she was delighted to have won the award.

“To me, it was really rewarding to even be nominated for this prestigious and glamorous award. Just being a finalist was really nice, and the others on the short-list were amazing.

“It was a glamorous evening and I really enjoyed it. I never expected to win at all. It’s added flames to the passion I have for what I do – making women feel and see their beauty, as well as making my business stand out in the crowd.”

Nicola Jane, who runs her own studio in Cleveleys – Nicola Jane Make-up Artist – carries out work for professional photo-shoots, for magazine articles, for weddings and a variety of private clients.

She said make-up had always been a passion.

“I have loved experimenting with make-up since I was a child. I was always playing with my mum’s make-up and I used to paint all of my Barbie dolls’ faces with my crayons, so they had lipstick and eye-shadow on.

“I was looking for a career change about five years ago and I am so pleased I chose make-up artistry as my new career.

“My style of make-up is quite natural. It is more Red Carpet, rather than full-on glam. I find it very rewarding and my favourite clients are the ones who never normally wear make-up.

“It is a lovely feeling making up someone’s face and seeing the delight on their face when they look in the mirror and see what a difference a little make-up can make.

“My work is very varied. One day I can be working on a wedding or a photoshoot, the next day I could be teaching private make-up lessons. I do a lot of work for ladies wanting special occasion make-up and also for girls attending proms.

“I never stop learning and enjoy taking courses to further my skills. Last year I trained in HD Airbrush make-up application and it is extremely popular with my bridal clients and also looks great on photoshoots. Airbrush is a spray on foundation and it gives a really flawless finish.”
