Putting family first has been the key to Shirley and Donald Culley’s happy marriage.
The Cleveleys couple , who have six children, 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at a surprise party which saw relatives flying in from Australia and Canada.
Donald set eyes on Shirley when they worked at Kendal Mills and asked her to a dance.
Shirley, 82, said: “I was a junior on the needlework counter and he was a van boy. He went in the Army for two years and I was still there when he came back so we took it from there.”
The couple moved to the Fylde coast soon after marrying at St Alban’s Church, Broadheath, on September 21, 1957.
Giving their secret to a long marriage, Donald, 83, said: “We’ve always put the children first. We get on well together.”
