Claire really pulls it off to win top award

Claire Hull, 29, was awarded the Best Supporting Actress award by the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) for her portrayal of the zany Trixie Martin in Denise Deegan’s Daisy Pulls It Off.

The play, which was performed by Poulton Drama club at Thornton Little Theatre in December, follows over-achiever Daisy Meredith as she battles the school bullies and hunts for buried treasure with the help of her best friend Trixie.

Claire said: “It was a complex role. Trixie is very energetic and vibrant, a little bit eccentric but a good all-round friend to Daisy.

“It was very hard work but it was really good fun. We had a great cast with lots of energy.

“I poured my whole energy and heart and soul into the role.”

Funeral director Claire was nominated for the award ceremony, which took place in Manchester on May 1, after catching the eye of NODA officials with her high-energy performance.

NODA critic Eddie Regan said: “Her facial expressions and use of her whole body conveyed her enthusiasm and commitment as the loyal friend. She was fascinating to watch.”

Claire said: “NODA selects the best plays and then the winners from each region are put forward to the Manchester ceremony. The representatives all get together and see who they think should get the overall win.

“I was very, very flattered when they chose me and I wasn’t at all expecting to win.

“To even be nominated was amazing.”
