A woman who poured cider over a blind toddler on Blackpool Promenade has escaped being jailed.
Paula Manders, who had drunk three litres of cider, ruined a Scottish family’s holiday by her behaviour towards the three-year-old disabled boy.
Manders, 42, of Hillcrest Road, South Shore, pleaded guilty to assault. She was sentenced to four weeks jail suspended for 12 months with up to 30 days rehabilitation to be supervised by the probation service, ordered to do a six months alcohol treatment course and pay £100 compensation by Blackpool Magistrates.
Prosecutor, Adrian Hollamby, said a mother with her daughter and three-year-old son was setting up a pushchair on The Prom on July 30. The toddlerwas in his grandmother’s arms.
Manders, who appeared drunk, came up and asked if she could touch the boy. She was told no as he was blind and did not like strangers touching him.
Manders then tried to pour cider in the toddler’s mouth before pouring alcohol over him, causing him to be scared.
