Families, friends and employees of Thornton firm AGC Chemicals enjoyed a fun packed day at Wyre Estuary Country Park.

A sunny day with food, fun and games was enjoyed by all, including the company mascot, ‘Simon the Scientist’, who took part in the event on Sunday, June 4.

The event was organised in conjunction with Newground, which has worked with AGC on environmental and educational events similar to this, and in local schools, for the past few years.

Outdoor activities such as creative woodworking, willow weaving and sports challenges, including tomahawk throwing, were open to everyone.

A traditional hog roast, refreshments, music from a live band and a roaming magician were a few of the highlights enjoyed by children and adults alike.

Throughout the day those in attendance were captured either on paper by a caricaturist or by Martin Gallagher Photography.

The raffle drawn on the day raised £338 from AGC staff buying tickets and making donations in aid of Streetlife, a youth work charity, which assists vulnerable young people in the Blackpool area.

AGC Chemicals and Fleetwood Town Football Club donated some prizes, which included a set of corporate hospitality tickets to a home game of the winner’s choice and a football shirt worn by one of the team.

Susie Claridge, AGC product and marketing manager, said: “AGC Chemicals prides itself on making a positive, beneficial impact on the local community through supporting charities and helping selected local organisations.

“The summer fête, organised in cooperation with Newground, is part of a full programme offered by AGC Chemicals Europe, which includes over 200 environmental workshops in schools attended by over 3000 children.

AGC also sponsors the Newground Green Hero Awards which involves 250 pupils from 50 different schools.
