The new Queen elect is 13 year old Charlotte Kennedy (pictured centre), who was chosen for the role at a special choosing event at Fleetwood Working Men’s Club on Sunday.

Organisers were hoping for a good turn-out of youngsters aged seven to 13, and they weren’t disappointed.

Nine candidates turned up on the day.

Charlotte’s younger brother Jacob Kennedy, aged 10, was chosen to be page boy and 13 year old Lucy Chantler will be this year’s Prince Charming.

The other six candidates will now be members of the retinue.

The current Fleetwood Carnival Queen is Hannah Praed. Ann Hanvey, chairman of the committee, said: “We were pleased with the turn-out, we’ll have plenty of young people representing Fleetwood Carnival on the day.” Fleetwood Carnival takes place this year on Saturday June 18 and preparations are already under way.

But there is a shortage of helping hands.

Mrs Hanvey added: “We could do with new members to join the committee especially to assist in marshalling the parade. We are asking people to get in touch if they can help.

“If we do not get more people to help for this year, there may not be a Carnival next year.

At present there are just half a dozen hard-working committee members who are responsible for coordinating the entire event, which includes a colourful parade, fancy dress competition and family fun activities afterwards.

The committee would ideally like to double that number, in addition to having enough marshalls for the big day itself.

If anyone is interested in helping. contact Ann Hanvey on (01253) 850080 or committee secretary Vicci Robinson on 0771261593.
