Charlene Downes' sister accused of assault

THE sister of missing teenager Charlene Downes has been accused of assaulting the brother of a man cleared of murdering Charlene.

Emma Downes, 24, of Buchanan Street, central Blackpool, is charged with the racially aggravated assault of Tareq Albattikhi.

Downes is alleged to have slapped Tareq Albattikhi and made race hate remarks to him at Blackpool's Club Sanuk on December 8 last year.

Defence lawyer, Howard Green, entered a not guilty plea to the charge on Downes's behalf.

Downes asked for her trial to take place at Preston Crown Court.

She was bailed to May 6 by Blackpool magistrates for the committal of her case to the higher court.

Teenager, Charlene Downes, was last seen on November 1 2003 on her way home from Blackpool's North Pier.

She was 14 at the time and a pupil at St George's Church of England School.

Iyad Albattikhi, a Jordanian, who ran the Funny Boyz takeway, Dickson Road, central Blackpool, was 28 when he was charged with Charlene's murder.

Iyad Albattikhi was acquitted of Charlene's murder.
