A NATIONAL children’s charity has opened a regional donations centre in Blackpool.
Barnardo’s has taken over a 6,013 sq ft unit at the Cherry Tree Road Retail Park.
The charity has taken on two members of staff and a manager at the unit and is appealing for volunteers to help there.
Assistant Director for Retail Operations Paul Guest said: “The Donation Centre is fantastic for those who don’t have much time to stop, but would like to donate their unwanted items to us.
“It does not replace our other two shops in Blackpool.”
Joe Assalone, Parner at Robert Pinkus & Co. which acted for the landlord said: “Barnardo’s has taken a new approach to their retailing with this new outlet at Cherry Tree Road Retail Park.
“It is unlike the typical smaller, high street units that charities are mostly associated with but complements their existing outlets on the Fylde.
“The move makes logistical and commercial sense for the charity due to the close proximity to the motorway, passing local and visitor traffic and the popularity of the retail park due to nearby retailers such as Asda, Bensons Bed Centre, and Storey Carpets. ”
Funds raised will go towards Barnardo’s vital work transforming the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people.
The charity said the site allowed donations to be quickly dropped off, such as bags of clothing, accessories, books and bric-a-brac, while people were en route to the nearby shops.
The team are appealing for donations and for volunteers to help run the centre. Donation Centre Manager, Jan Boult said: “If you have a few hours to spare and would like to work with a friendly team, please give us a call.”
