AN APPEAL has been launched to find Fylde families prepared to host children from Chernobyl this summer.
The call coincides with the 21st anniversary of the nuclear disaster at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station in the Ukraine.
The Chernobyl Children’s Life Line organises month-long respite breaks to Great Britain, including the Fylde Coast, giving youngsters a chance to live in a clean environment and receive medical care.
The Blackpool link is finalising plans for 10 children, aged eight to 11, to stay here in July, but need two more host families.
James Heatley, chairman of the link, said: “There is one child plus the groups interpreter who we are yet to find host families for.
“The sooner we can find somebody the better, as we need to run the necessary checks and help prepare them during the run-up to the arrivals.”
