Penny Farm, part of World Horse Welfare, on Preston New Road at Westby, received the contribution from Pets at Home charity Support Adoption for Pets.

Each year Penny Farm takes in around 100 horses and ponies for rehabilitation and rehoming.

Nine-year-old Shire horse Miss Tickle and her foal Tess are just two of the horses rescued this winter.

Tess and Miss Tickle were part of a large group of Shire horses signed over to the RSPCA when they were found fly-grazing at a location near Kidderminster.

The group was rounded up and transported to safety in a multi-agency operation which involved a number of welfare organisations.

Since then Tess and Miss Tickle have flourished in the care of Penny Farm’s team and are progressing well through their rehabilitation.

World Horse Welfare Penny Farm manager Fran Williamson said: “Tess and Miss Tickle are a fantastic pair of horses to have around.

“Not only are they eye-catching, but they are both very friendly and we are confident they have bright futures ahead.

“This generous donation will go a long way towards funding our vet bills during the winter months and help us to reach more horses and ponies in need.”

Laura Messenger, grant funding co-ordinator at Support Adoption For Pets, said: “It is a real privilege to help an organisation that works so hard to care for and re-home pets in need.”
