Blackpool Coastal Housing held its 11th annual awards ceremony to celebrate the achievements and contributions that community members and customers have made throughout the past year.

More than 170 community volunteers and invited guests, including deputy mayor Coun Gary Coleman and deputy mayoress Coun Debbie Coleman, attended the ceremony held at Blackpool’s Hilton Hotel.

John Donnellon, chief executive of Blackpool Coastal Housing, which manages nearly 5,000 properties on behalf of Blackpool Council, said: “The awards are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the work our customers and residents do to help strengthen and develop both our local communities and the services we provide at BCH.

“It was great to see so many of our involved customers and community groups attending the event and I would like to personally congratulate all who were nominated, those that were highly commended and of course the winners of each award – well done!”

And the winners are...

‘Working Together’ Award

Lynette and Robert Walker – for their community spirit, holding regular activities and organising computer courses for all ages.

‘Resident of the Year’ Award

Brenda Giles – for her work at Ibbison Court Community Centre and ‘zest for life’, while also caring full time for her husband.

‘Gone Green’ Award

Lowmoor Gardening Club – for developing a community garden, providing free vegetables for those who can’t afford them.

‘Making a Stand’ Award

Barry Wright – for his work resolving issues for the community at Newby Place.

‘Breaking the Barriers’ Award

Paul Heath –for his commitment to transforming his life and willingness to change.

‘Learner of the Year’ Award

Ann Jones – for her ‘fantastic progress over the past 18 months and achieving qualifications she never thought possible.

Tenants Project Fund Award

Boathouse Youth – for providing activities for young people, helping them develop personal and social skills.

‘Community Action Stations’ Award

Mereside and Friends in Action – for their fantastic contribution to the Mereside area of Blackpool, from organising events to getting funding to improve the area.

‘Helping Hand’ Award

Linda McEvilly – for working tirelessly for her local community, going the extra mile for anyone and for being a ‘true unsung hero’.

‘Customer and Staff’ Choice Award

Memory Lane Café – for providing a dementia friendly lunch club enjoyed by residents and the wider community.
