Celebrating the best of the social scene calendar from 2017

The Gazette Best of Health Awards took place at the Imperial Hotel in Blackpool. Nikki Brown, Toni Shaw, Helena Mottashed, Janet Tippett, Melanie Kearns and Lois Taaffe.

In July, friends and family turned out in force to support the Miss Blackpool finalists as they took to the catwalk in a bid to win the beauty pageant, at The Paradise Room, at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

The trophy was lifted by Shannon Marie Hammill.

Then in August, Fleetwood Museum held one of its popular coffee mornings, at the Queens Terrace attraction, along with an exhibition in the gallery about Fleetwood’s Early Years.

Meanwhile, at David Slack Allotments, on Newton Drive, an apple press day took place – which saw the allotments open to the public, demonstrations of apple-pressing and a coffee and cake afternoon to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

September saw The Gazette’s eighth annual Best Of Health Awards recognise excellence and dedication by health professionals and volunteers, with a presentation dinner at Blackpool’s Imperial Hotel.

In the same month, the Pinder family, from Preesall, held a fundraising black-tie ball at the Village Hotel, Heron’s Reach, Blackpool, in aid of the charity Rays of Sunshine, which helps brighten the lives of seriously ill youngsters by granting them wishes.

Jessica Pinder was one of those children when she was diagnosed with leukaemia four years ago. Her family wanted to give something back to say thanks to the charity for arranging for her to meet pop idols Union J.

Another black-tie ball was held at the Clifton Arms Hotel, in Lytham, organised by medical secretary Gill Booth, raising £4,600 for Blackpool’s young carers.

And in November, Thornton Cleveleys Friends of Trinity Hospice encouraged people to put their feet up and grab a cuppa in aid of the Bispham-based hospice, with a coffee morning at St Teresa’s Church Hall, in Cleveleys.
