Labour has selected Cat Smith to fight the Fleetwood and Lancaster seat at the next general election in 2015.

The seat is currently held by Tory Eric Ollerenshaw with a majority of 333.

Ms Smith, who lives in Lancaster, unsuccessfully stood for the Wyre and Preston North seat in 2010.

She said: “The people of Lancaster and Fleetwood don’t need another Tory MP who just keeps supporting the failed policies of David Cameron and George Osborne.

“We need an MP who will deliver jobs and growth and put the people of Lancaster and Fleetwood first.

“I look forward to meeting more people of Lancaster and Fleetwood on the doorstep and listening to their views. I’ll always do what is best for Lancaster and Fleetwood.”

Meanwhile, Blackpool North and Cleveleys Labour party has a shortlist of six candidates: Mathew Hood, Dr Michael McLaughlin, Penny Martin, Adam Mohammed,Sam Rushworth and Christopher Webb. Hustings are due to take place on Saturday. Candidate Mr Mohammed says opening a voluntary law centre would be one of his campaign issues in
order to give people “access to justice” at a time of cuts to civil legal aid.
