Casualty taken to hospital after Christmas Eve fire in Cleveleys

A casualty has been taken to hospital after a fire broke out at a home in Cleveleys this morning (Friday, December 24).

Fire crews from Fleetwood and Bispham rushed to the home in Thornton Gate at 5.43am, where they tackled the fire in an upstairs bedroom.

Four firefighters entered the home wearing breathing apparatus to shield them from the thick black smoke, whilst one person was given first aid outside.

Ambulance crews were then called to the scene and the casualty was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital for a precautionary check.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service has not confirmed the cause of the fire at this stage.

A fire service spokesman said: "At 5.43am, two fire engines from Fleetwood and Bispham attended a fire involving a first floor bedroom in a domestic property on Thornton Gate, Thornton Cleveleys.

"Firefighters used four breathing apparatus and one hose reel to extinguish the fire.

"One casualty was conveyed to hospital for a precautionary check. Firefighters were in attendance for an hour and fifteen minutes."
