A council report says the flat roofs at the building, operated by the YMCA on behalf of the authority, are almost 40 years old and "well past their expected lifespan".

It added the property has "been continually exposed to high winds and aggressive environmental conditions.

"The roof coverings have perished and deteriorated resulting in water ingress in a number of areas into the building.

"There is also evidence that water has been able to collect under the felt on some sections of the roof saturating the roof insulation."

Repairs will include making the roof watertight, repairing skylights and checking drainage outlets.

In recent years Wyre Council has invested £135,000 in new gym equipment at Fleetwood Leisure Centre, and £125,000 in new filters for the swimming pool.
