The convoy is due to set off from the resort’s St John’s Square at 10.30am and will head to Scarborough via Leeds.

It is due to arrive on the east coast on Sunday after calling in at Leeds Children’s Hospital, Monks Cross and Clifton Moor Shopping Centres in York on the way.

The rally raises awareness of, and funds for, the Little Princess Trust charity, which gives ‘real hair’ wigs to children and young adults in the UK and Ireland who lose their hair, primarily through cancer treatment.

Its departure from Blackpool coincides with the town’s Illuminations switch on ifest.

Sali Gray, creator and organiser of the Pink Car Rally which is in its eighth year, said; “Each year I think I can’t possibly get excited about the rally again, but I do.

“Starting the rally in Blackpool, during ifest, is amazing and I’m already wondering whether we will be able to entice any ‘celebrities’ into our cars, for some pink publicity photos.

“We’re hoping lots of people will come to see our pretty pink cars, which will be dressed up for the occasion, as will we.

“Sunglasses may be required (rose-tinted of course) because our shiny cars are dazzlingly bright – rather like the Illuminations themselves!”

Eileen Ormand, Blackpool’s town centre and BID (Business Improvement District) manager said: “We are really pleased to have the Pink Car Rally starting their trip across the country from St John’s Square in Blackpool.

“We look forward to cheering them off at 10.30am on the Saturday morning. With so much happening in Blackpool’s iFest weekend they are sure to get a good send off.”

The cars will start gathering for the rally from 9am onwards, before Blackpool Mayor Coun Peter Callow officially waves them cars off.

The pink procession will stay overnight in York and is due to arrive at Scarborough Fair, where a vintage fair is taking place, at around 1pm on Sunday.
