The search has been launched to find the best carer in Blackpool.

The council has linked up with Blackpool Care at Home Providers’ Forum to launch the 2015 Carer of the Year Awards celebrating those who go the extra mile to ensure older adults can continue to live comfortably in their own home.

Coun Eddie Collett, Blackpool Council’s cabinet member for adult safeguarding, said: “We know that standards of care in Blackpool are generally very good.

“We also know that when there are problems within the sector it can hit the headlines, bringing a poor perception on the care sector which is wholly undeserved with so many people giving up their time to care diligently, professionally and conscientiously to provide a fantastic service.

“What we want to do with the awards is show care workers that doing their job is not a thankless task;.

“It’s one that is very much appreciated here.”

Chairman of Care at Home Provider Forum Sandy Bell of The Safehands Group, added: “Home care providers work extremely hard to ensure the quality of staff we send out to Blackpool residents is to a very high standard.

“Working in partnership with Blackpool Council we want to reward these dedicated and caring staff, who always go that extra mile.

“For too long now there has been negative press around carers and this event is to highlight the fact that the majority of carers do an excellent job.”

Care providers will be handing out nomination forms to people who use care at home services.

The final award for carer of the year will then be presented amongst other categories at a ceremony in October.

Other awards that will be handed out at the ceremony include for the best new carer, the most improved carer, the best double-up team and the best care co-ordinator.

Nominations for those awards will be made by Blackpool care providers.
