Patricia Clarke-Roberts, owner of St Annes Care Services, said: “People working in care get a bad reputation sometimes.

“Being nominated for going the extra mile with the MNDA is something good about the care business that you don’t often see.

“We have cared for people for over 21 years; we feel absolutely great and I think we have done a very good job.

“The staff are well-trained. We care for end-of-lifers and people with motor neurone disease, but other people as well.

“It’s only a small team but we have been going for so long and I like to think we offer a more personal service than what you would get from the big businesses.

“I’m very proud of my team; they do a good job and not many carers are nominated for something like this.

“They work very hard. They don’t work long hours but the work they do is quite stressful. Luckily, it’s very rewarding.

“You have to go the extra mile every day in this sort of work.

“It’s not just a job - it’s a way of life.”
