Blackpool Council, which owns the land on Central Drive, has applied for planning permission to resurface the site and fence it off.

Some landscaped areas will also be included in the design.

It will be an extension to an existing car park and permission is being sought for a temporary period of five years.

The buildings, which included the former Banks House Guest House and some retail units, were demolished earlier this year after falling into dereliction.

They had been fire damaged and had become a magnet for anti-social behaviour including drug-taking and rough sleeping.

A design statement accompanying the application says: “It is thought that extra car parking provision will alleviate some of the parking congestion that this area suffers particularly in high season.”

It adds: “This is a temporary use of the site while the council considers the future development of the site and the surrounding areas.”

The application will now be considered by town hall planners at a future date.
