Campaigning children issue road safety appeal to mums and dads not to leave cars illegally outside Blackpool school
Children at Roseacre Primary Academy in Blackpool unveiled the latest in an ongoing road safety campaign.
The youngsters draped brightly-coloured banners reading: ‘Keep clear - don’t park here!’ outside the school on Tuesday as a plea to parents to mind their parking as children head in and out of the playground.
Year 3 teacher Paula Storton said: “Traffic has been a big problem because we have nearly 650 children in this school. We were staggered by the amount of traffic arriving and leaving every day.
“The traffic wardens have been around and given out a few parking tickets, but what we’re really trying to do is get the parents on board.”
The banners come as the latest in the school’s year-long campaign to encourage parents to walk their children to school, and people parking illegally on road markings outside.
Miss Storton said: “We started the campaign last August so it’s been a year in the making.
“From what parents have told us they think it’s great that we’re doing something. Some parents are now parking at a distance and walking their children the rest of the way.
“We have had a few assemblies about it with the children and they are all very positive about it.”
