Former council leader Peter Callow has been chosen as the next Mayor of Blackpool – providing he retains his seat at this May’s local elections.
Fellow councillors voted for Coun Callow to take up the honour after he was nominated by Coun Fred Jackson and seconded by Coun Tony Williams at last night’s full meeting of the council.
However, to fulfil the role he will have to retain his seat in Norbreck when voters go to the polls on May 7.
Coun Callow said: “It is a great honour to be chosen to be the Mayor of Blackpool, but of course I will have to win my seat in May to take up the honour.”
Coun Callow was leader of the Tories on Blackpool Council during the last administration.
He was at the helm when the council bought The Tower and the Winter Gardens as part of a £40m deal.
