THE golden age of Blackpool Trams can be seen every day of the year as Blackpool Transport set to work on a charity calendar.

Following the success of a similar project last year, which saw thousands of calendars featuring the current tram fleet sold, organisers are now taking a trip down memory lane.

The 2012 design will be called 126 years of Blackpool Trams and contain beautiful images of historic trams which have graced the Golden Mile.

The company hope this year’s calendar, which will be on sale at outlets across the resort from June, will sell 10,000 copies and raise £40,000 for charity.

Preparations are well underway according to St Annes tram driver and project organiser Ken McNamara.

He said: “We’ve had really amazing support this year and the calendar looks amazing.

“We’ve got a lot more businesses and people on board and we’re hoping to make in the region of £40,000 for charity.

“The old trams are really wonderful to look at and we have sourced some great pictures which are always very popular.

“There is still time for any organisations or businesses to sponsor the calendar so if you would like to be involved, please get in touch.”

The calendars will cost in the region of £6,000 to print and are currently in the process of being put together.

They will go on sale for £2.99 with proceeds divided between charity Children With Leukaemia and Donna’s Dream House.

As well as the calendar, Blackpool Transport is also producing 1,200 postcards and 120 large pictures suitable for wall mounts in order to boost cash flow.

A number of other charity events are also being arranged to help raise money to cover production costs.

A Blackpool Transport tram pull will be taking place on July 14 as well as charity auctions and a dinner later in the year.

The company are looking forward to seeing the calendar finished.

Managing director Trevor Roberts said: “We’re delighted to assist Ken once again with putting the calendar together, especially as it’s for such a worthy cause.

“We’re really proud of Ken’s efforts, he continues to show great dedication and has worked very hard to put this project together.”

Businesses can still sponsor a month of the calendar or find out more information by calling Ken McNamara on 07777 683989.
