Blackpool’s Sandcastle Waterpark has been acknowledged as the country’s best in ensuring everybody is able to enjoy its indoor fun.
The seafront venue beat off competition from other top tourism businesses to secure Visit England’s Gold Tourism Excellence Award for Access for All.
Sandcastle Waterpark managing director John Child said: “We are delighted to have won this prestigious award as Access for All is something our team is extremely passionate about and it is at the heart of our business.
“We believe every business and every individual in the tourism industry should break down as many barriers as possible for guests with disabilities, and as a company we are delighted to be at the forefront of doing just that.
“Unfortunately too many businesses around the country are still happy to hide behind health and safety rather than to endeavour to break down barriers.”
Marketing Blackpool Marketing Blackpool Natalie Wyatt said: “This is a fantastic win. The attraction has grown into the UK’s largest indoor waterpark and it is quite clear it is making its mark on the country’s top places to visit. In Blackpool we already knew that, but to win such a highly-coveted award on a national scale is great news and we are delighted for everyone.”
Blackpool-based charity Aiming Higher works closely with the attraction, specialising in activities for families with disabled children. Charity manager Katy Simister said: “The Sandcastle team will continue to strive regardless of the awards and accolades they receive. They are always willing to learn new skills to improve the quality of their service. They do it because they understand and care. It’s a centre of excellence the country can enjoy.”
